Bi-monthly meetings of the BBG Society - USA
The society holds its meetings on the 1st Sunday afternoon (3:30-5:00 PM), every other month.

August 2 - "Creations curse Redemptions cure: Thorns and Thistles of the Bible."
The session will explore the wide variety of positive uses of thorns in ancient times, thus dispelling some of the negativity about the usefulness of thorns and thistles.
October 4 - "Go FIG-ure: the fig and fig tree in the Hebrew Bible and Christian Scriptures. The session will look at specific identification, uses of, and the growing of fig trees in north-central Florida.
November 15 - Tour of the 26 acre campus and home of the Biblical Botanical Gardens Society-USA, High Springs, Florida. Tour begins at 3 PM.
December 6 - Most of us are familiar with the gifts the Wise Men brought the Christ child; gold, frankincense and myrrh(Matthew 2:11). We all know what gold is, but what exactly is frankincense and myrrh? What are these gifts which were once some of the most prized substances valued as highly as gold?
Our Christmas theme program will look to answer this question.
May 28 - Clarkesville Garden Club, Clarksville, GA.

August 20- Alachua Beekeepers Club Meeting
Dr Bez will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Alachua Beekeepers Club, High Springs, Florida. The meeting begins at 7PM at the Dadant company. The meeting is open to the public. Ed will be talking about "The archaeology of bees and beekeeping"; a fascinating look at what ancient civilizations (particularly in the Lands of the Bible) did with bees and their products. August 22 - National Honeybee Awareness Day.
Pollinators such as honeybees are essential as "players" in the fruitfulness and flowering of many biblical plants. Bees are important agents of fruiutfulness and need to be understood and protected. This event is designed to do just that. Check your local Beekeepers associations for family-centered activities.
BBGS will host a booth at the Alachua Beekeepers Club in High Springs, FL.

December 12 - Volunteer work day at the Oasis at High Springs
A general campus clean-up and flower bed preparations for the winter bulbous plants. Work will begin at 8 am and continue until 4 pm. Volunteers can come for all or segments of the work day. Bring your green thumb and gardening tools. Call 352-301-1445 for more information. January 29-30 - Celebrate Tu Bishvat (or Rosh HaShanah La'Ilanot- New Year of the Trees) - Year 5770
Tu Bishvat (Hebrew: ט״ו בשבט) is a minor Jewish holiday in the Hebrew month of Shevat, usually sometime in late January or early February, that marks the "New Year of the Trees" (Hebrew: ראש השנה לאילנות, Rosh HaShanah La'Ilanot). Tu Bishvat is one of four "New Years" mentioned in the Mishnah. Customs include planting trees and eating dried fruits and nuts, especially figs, dates, raisins, carob, and almonds. In Israel, the flowering of the almond tree, which grows wild around the country, coincides with Tu Bishvat.
We will have a tree planting ceremony at the Glimpses of Eden Biblical Gardens. Times to be announced.
